John ‘The Razor’ Phan Wins WPT 2008 Legends of Poker Championship

Considered one of the top international poker players, John ‘The Razor’ Phan has added another win to an already impressive career by taking home the WPT 2008 Legends of Poker Championship. Phan took home $1,091,428 after he beat an entry field of 373 players.

Other players who competed in the final were Paul Smith, Amit “amak316″ Makhija, Kyle Wilson, Zachary Clark and Trong Nguyen. The first to lose and bow out of the final was Canadian Kyle Wilson who finished in sixth place. The Canadian pushed his $995,000 stack into an unsuccessful confrontation with Clark; however he ended the tournament with $176,035.

Next to exit the final match was short stacked Trong Nguyen who collected $211,245 in prize money. Paul Smith finished fourth as he came off second best in a tense encounter with Phan, and he took home a cash prize of $246,450.

With Clark, Makhija and Phan left at the table, they battled for over four hours to determine a winner. The contest started with Clark taking a huge million dollar hit early on in a clash with Phan. With big pots building, it looked as if Makhija was going to come out on top, with his chip stack, at one point sitting over seven million, but Phan fought back to draw level in time to see Clark depart in third place, earning $281,645.

With Phan and Makhija sitting at the final table it was time for someone to make an aggressive move. Phan gradually pulled ahead to claim a four-to-one chip lead over Makhija. Makhija attempted a comeback, but by level 27 Phan was not to be denied the win. Makhija finished in second place, earning himself $563,320.
