Online Bookies Bet McCain Will Dump Sarah Palin

Online betting enthusiasts are now putting their smart money on the fact that McCain will dump Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate. Even before the Republican Presidential Candidate revealed the fact that his running mates 17 year old daughter was pregnant, bookies in Britain and Ireland were offering 20-1 odds or higher that she would be forced off the ticket.

A political betting analyst at Paddy Power, commenting on the issue states, “It is a rarity for a running mate to be dropped but it is not impossible. A number of players betting with us are betting on the fact that her days on the Republican ticket are numbered.”

Odds placed with Paddy Power and William Hill has suggested that the Republican candidate may lose the White House race due to his running mate choice. Ladbrokes have placed Democratic candidate Barack Obama as their favorite to win the race to the Presidency.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson in London commented, “Ever since Palin has been nominated people have stopped placing bets on McCain. He has gone down like a sack of potatoes as far as our players are concerned.”

William Hill has cut the odds on Palin being sacked to 8-1 from 20-1, while Paddy Power now placed the odds of Palin leaving the ticket at 14-1, compared to 28-1 and is offering odds of 33-1 that she will quit by the end of this week. Ladbrokes is offering 10-1 odds that Palin will quit the race.

The betting houses also say players are shifting their money on odds that Obama will win in November. Obama is a 4-9 favorite to win in November with Paddy Power from 1-2 before the Palin appointment, while William Hill have said Obama’s odds have shifted last week to 4-9, where they now remain, from 4-11 on Aug. 21 and 2-5 before that.
