Powerball Jackpot Grows to $176 Million
While there were no jackpot winners in the Powerball draw that was held on Saturday, there was a lady who took home a million dollars. The million dollar winner was Tara Halderman who was picking up her groceries at Wal-Mart and the receipt caught her eye.
The winner a resident of Noble County headed to Scott’s J-418 at 310 W. North St. in Kendallville to make the purchase. The winner’s ticket matched five of the six Powerball numbers for a $200,000 win, but because she purchased Power Play for an extra $1, her win was multiplied five times for a $1 million win.
She went along with her husband on Monday, to Indianapolis to claim their prize. Her husband said, “I never thought I am going to see that cheque. I couldn’t believe my eyes.”
They plan to buy a home with their winnings. He added, “We’ve been renting all of our life.”
The winning numbers in Saturdays draw were: 6, 28, 30, 40 and 47. The Powerball number was 24. The Power Play multiplier was 5. Another winner won a million in Connecticut. Two other lucky tickets sold in Montana (1), and Wisconsin (1), each won $200,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers. The jackpot for the Wednesday, September 24th drawing will be $176 million with the cash option at $89 million.
A huge number of 42 tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Nine additional tickets of that prize level had the Power Play and had the prize multiplied by 5 for a $50,000 cash win. A total of 865,771 tickets across the nation won more than $9.5 million in prizes playing America’s favorite game.
