Australian Government Plans To Test Internet Filters For Online Gambling

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

The government in Australia is currently in the process of testing internet filters that will aim to stop the residents of Australia from being able to access any online casinos what so ever. One of the senators in Australia says that it is mandatory for these filters to stop people from accessing these sites as it is corruption for the their country.

The Australian government is being strongly advised to instruct ISP’s to block any content that maybe considered illegal starting with Child pornography to any other illegitimate websites that may fall under their opinion of inappropriate.

The government is currently proposing a possible plan of an opt out list that would allow those adults that want permission to enter the sites under discussion and may allow some access to these sites. However this may only be applied to sites that the government decides to deem appropriate enough and may not include gambling sites and especially not pornography sites.

These new ideas are very controversial. Many are saying that online gambling is so similar to physical gambling and it is their own money that they are using so they should definitely be permitted to do so. The topic is still up for discussion and is unlikely to see an end until 2009.

Argentina May Ban Online Gambling

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Argentina is following suit in the way of the US and considering making totally new laws when it comes to any form of online gambling. It looks as though they are looking to regulate all the activity that is currently happening with regards to online gaming without currently benefiting the Argentina government. Talks are currently taking place on a very high level.

It is known that it happens to be a very popular activity there to gamble whether it be in a land based casino or online but officials are saying that they will make the attempt to regulate or fully ban all online gambling activity in the year to come.

The government recently released a bill that said all forms of online gambling is illegal. The grey area comes to function when trying to state what actually qualifies as online gambling and the details of what sites will be banned and blocked from the general public. The next bill talks about the association of ISPs and what role they will have when it comes to blocking online gambling and financial sites that take money in order to process accounts for online bets.

These new bills are causing a lot of controversy talk even though they have not yet been officially passed and are only in the talks. People are fighting that it is their right to do what they want with their income in this respect that fines and imprisonment would not be fair punishment for such an offence.

Google Reverses Ban on Online Gambling Ads

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

The online search engine, Google has announced that it is partially reversing a policy against accepting gambling advertisements. The company announced that its decision over the last year to ban gaming ads will no longer be applicable to England, Scotland, and Wales.

The online search has said that its corporate motto is “Don’t be evil,” and made implications that the ban on gambling ads was part of a decision to protect the public from such other promotions as those for guns, prostitution, and so-called miracle cures. However, Google did not find gaming unethical until the company was forced to settle with the U.S. Department of Justice.

In that matter, it paid a fine for having accepted ads for online casinos. The removal of any future ads prevented Google from another legal headache with the U.S. government.

Google is presently facing a stock value that is off by almost fifty percent, largely due to declining revenues as advertising dollars are harder to come by in the struggling economy. Internet gambling advertisements represent a huge source of income.

The search engine has defended its policy change by saying it preferred to localize such decisions to comply with local customs and traditions. Online gambling is legal in Britain. Of course, if that logic were extended, then prostitution ads would be alright in parts of Nevada, and firearms could be pushed in Texas and Florida.

Google says only licensed gambling establishments will qualify as advertisers. Any ads accepted will be coded non-family-safe, which allows parental control software to block them.
