Australian Government Plans To Test Internet Filters For Online Gambling

The government in Australia is currently in the process of testing internet filters that will aim to stop the residents of Australia from being able to access any online casinos what so ever. One of the senators in Australia says that it is mandatory for these filters to stop people from accessing these sites as it is corruption for the their country.

The Australian government is being strongly advised to instruct ISP’s to block any content that maybe considered illegal starting with Child pornography to any other illegitimate websites that may fall under their opinion of inappropriate.

The government is currently proposing a possible plan of an opt out list that would allow those adults that want permission to enter the sites under discussion and may allow some access to these sites. However this may only be applied to sites that the government decides to deem appropriate enough and may not include gambling sites and especially not pornography sites.

These new ideas are very controversial. Many are saying that online gambling is so similar to physical gambling and it is their own money that they are using so they should definitely be permitted to do so. The topic is still up for discussion and is unlikely to see an end until 2009.
